“Be eager to learn and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”

When Chris, a senior financial analyst in Solon, Ohio, and a teammate in our Electrical Connections business segment, decided to take the next step in his career, he found the perfect opportunity at nVent. “I was an analyst at my previous job and was looking to move up to a senior-level role,” Chris shared. “There weren’t any open positions with my previous company at the time, and I saw nVent had an open position, so I applied. I was attracted to the focus on people, the inclusive culture, and the mission to connect and protect our world. ” By joining our team, he experienced professional and personal growth.

Chris’s role at nVent is pivotal during the financial pre-close and close weeks. He explained, “I’ll review any internal account entry errors that may have a missing general ledger code, cost center, etc., and partner with team members to get those corrected so they can post properly. There are a few journal entries I’ll prepare and submit during close.” His responsibilities also include collaborating with operations management to create a financial forecast for the business.

One of the aspects Chris enjoys most about his role is the tangible connection to the work being done. “It’s very interesting to be able to go out into the plant to see the machines/presses,” he noted. “It’s helpful to see the components that determine our earned hours, efficiency, and productivity.” The hands-on experience he gains enriches his understanding and enhances his contributions to the team.

Chris is proactive in seeking improvements within his role. He recently assisted the team with fine-tuning a financial report that saves time during spend-related research. “There were a handful of ‘critiques’ IT made throughout the duration of this ticket to keep checking the output of the report,” he said, “but I believe now and going forward we can use this with confidence.” His curiosity and problem-solving skills will benefit the team for the long run.

At nVent, Chris finds that new ideas are welcome and innovation is encouraged. “No idea is a bad idea,” Chris stated. “Everyone, whether new or long-time employees, has a unique perspective and may have different ways of approaching the problems, tasks, or situations,” he explained. This culture of openness allows ideas to flourish, with the understanding that if an idea doesn’t work, the team can “fail fast” and build towards a successful solution.

The supportive environment at nVent has made a significant impact on Chris’s experience. “Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful at nVent since I started,” he commented. “I enjoy the building I work in and the people I collaborate with. I like the job that I do and the responsibilities I have. I feel like I help contribute to the team, our goals, and nVent as a whole.”

One highlight for Chris has been the company’s parental leave policy, which proved invaluable when his second child was born in the fall of 2024. “My wife and I have a 3-year-old, and in the fall of 2024, our second child was born. nVent’s parental leave policy helped us adapt to our new life as a family of four,” Chris said. “Being able to take that time off allowed me to bond further with our newborn, as well as help my wife out consistently, especially on the days during her maternal leave when both of our children were home.” Chris was grateful he could connect with his family at this critical time.
